Cities & Districts
Throughout history, cities have been the drivers for innovation and knowledge creation. Yet, from the 1960's until today many science and technology parks around the world were created outside of cities, creating a suburban typology that increasingly proves to lose its attractiveness to talent and investments. Interlace-Invent has over the past years demonstrated that cities or inner-city areas are in fact a key resource for innovation, calling for a new urban model: the urban innovation environment or third generation science park.
Together with our clients and partners we have pioneered urban policies, investments and services that open the city as a proactive space for innovation, drawing on its unique dynamic qualities. Interlace-Invent breaks down the immense complexity of such projects by drawing on research, international benchmarking, and systematic stakeholder involvement. The resulting strategies can lead new ways, such as the Shanghai Biomedical Cluster in Xuhui District, the Health Innovation Academy in the 22@ Barcelona Innovation District or the Competence Centre Konstanz, overcoming complex political and financial processes.
